Stereo 12 Strings with FL Studio |
| |
If you don't have a good 12 strings guitar sound it can be easily created on FL Studio 5 using the delay function of the channel.
First upload a good sampled guitar, let's say a steel, or any other good simulation by a synthesizer. Then click on the Functions tab and apply the settings to the delay section as shown in the below picture.
Now make a pattern with a sigle bar classic guitar arpeggio and play it.
One note about 12 strings. This is a fake even it may sounds good. 99% of the 12 strings you may find around are fakes. A real 12 strings has the highest double strings, B and E, which are tuned the same way with no octave interval differently than the other lower strings. So if you want to get a real sampled 12 strings always care for this detail, despite the fact that it may sounds good.

Raving bass line with FL Studio |
| |
What about of taking a normal bass phrase, just one measure, and make it crazy? Yes I would say frantic, raving, as your fingers cannot afford. Let's use an arpeggiator, almost any sequencer got one, also FL Studio 5 got it and I am having a bit of fun with it. If you don't know how to do it here is a tip.
First let's have a normal 4 beats phrase, you can find it anywhere or you can make it by your self. Would be recommended something containing a mix of 1/16 and 1/8 notes or more or less. Hey don't make notes overlapping, there you got the piano roll, shorten them, just leave a bit of space between notes.
Well we got the phrase let's get a bit of speed, we cannot make it with a slow tempo so we can set something between 130 and 140. Now, assuming you have choosen a bass sound of your taste, unless you want see only the keyboard playing with no sound, go to the arpeggiator section of the channel, select the arpeggiator up arrow, right click the Time knob and from the Set submenu select 1 Step, from the Chord menu select Dorian (I found is more suitable). If your phrase is not on the right bass octave please transpose it otherwise it may sounds ridiculous.
You can press Play and listen, after a while you start to get involved and feel a kind of hypnotized.
Adjust the gate in a way you can distinguish the phrase but not too much. The result depends on the original phrase, you may even use the same note for the entire phrase but it is a little less exiting.
If you are a newbee remember to make your phrase harmonic.
At this point, once you are hypnotized and you want to get completely mad, while is playing select the ? on the arpeggiator.
